What is EFT Tapping:
EFT Tapping, also known as Emotional Freedom Techniques or tapping, is an evidence-based stress reduction technique that calms the fight/flight/freeze response in your brain and nervous system, promoting emotional wellbeing.
By tapping on specific acupressure points on the face and upper body, you can send calming signals to the amygdala, the part of your brain responsible for the fight-or-flight response. This process helps lower stress hormones like adrenaline and cortisol, allowing you to feel calmer and more relaxed.
One of the remarkable aspects of EFT tapping is its efficiency. Many people find it effective in reducing the intensity of negative feelings more quickly than traditional methods such as talk therapy. During a tapping session, you focus on a negative thought, feeling, or experience while gently tapping on specific acupressure points. This combination not only soothes and calms your body but also helps release stored emotions.
Clinical EFT Tapping can be performed with a trained practitioner. This approach is particularly beneficial for processing distressing events and past traumas. It's widely used to address a range of issues, including anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), chronic pain, fears, phobias, addictions, and self-esteem challenges.
EFT Tapping is evidence-based and scientific studies demonstrate that tapping on specific acupressure points can signal to your brain that it’s safe, which rapidly and effectively calms the body. As your body starts to feel calmer and more relaxed, your thoughts and emotions can improve too. Clinical EFT can enhance the speed and depth of these improvements, helping people feel better, and faster than through standard talk therapy. Importantly, the benefits tend to be long-lasting, reducing the likelihood of recurring issues.
EFT Tapping integrates traditional psychological techniques such as exposure therapy (focusing on negative experiences) and cognitive therapy (how you think about that problem), with a body-based component (the tapping itself), creating a powerful and effective method for rapidly releasing stress and stored emotions.
EFT Tapping is easy to learn, empowering you to utilise it as a personal stress reduction tool.
In summary, EFT Tapping offers a holistic approach by combining mind and body techniques that can lead to long lasting changes and improved mental health and wellbeing.
How we structure a Clinical EFT Session with aN accredited practitioner:
1. We identify a goal: What event, feeling, or thought would you like to think/feel differently about.
2. We focus on a recent time this occurred or a future time this might occur.
3. We determine how you feel about this now and where you feel this in your body.
4. We use this information to create a ‘set-up statement,’ saying it three times while tapping on the side of your hand.
5. We then tap on the other acupressure points on your body using a ‘reminder phrase.’ After tapping on all of these points this is called one ‘round’ of tapping.
6. After 2 rounds of tapping we check in to see how you feel about this now.
7. We repeat the tapping process (steps 3 – 6) until you feel more calm and relaxed in relation to your goal.
Example:
Set-up statement: “Even though I feel anxious just thinking about doing a presentation at my next meeting at work, and I feel this in my chest, I accept that’s how I feel” – while tapping on the side of your hand.
Reminder phrase: “I feel anxious” – while tapping on the other acupressure points.Take a minute to write an introduction that is short, sweet, and to the point. If you sell something, use this space to describe it in detail and tell us why we should make a purchase. Tap into your creativity. You’ve got this.
How EFT tapping can affect the mind and body:
After each round of EFT Tapping, you’ll likely notice a decrease in the intensity of the feelings or events you’re focusing on. As you tap, it’s common for different emotions to emerge—perhaps shifting from anxiety to frustration to worry. We continue to address any negative emotions or events until you feel a greater sense of calm and relaxation.
As the intensity of strong feelings diminishes, you may find it easier to think differently about your situation. This process can lead to greater understanding about why you feel that way, gain clarity, and improve your ability to make decisions or solve problems more effectively. Ultimately, it helps you explore ways to improve your situation and start enjoying life again!
Additionally, Clinical EFT Tapping can enhance various aspects of your emotional well-being, such as resilience, confidence, self-esteem, and acceptance of yourself and your situation. It can also improve your capacity to cope with challenges and improve your relationships, depending on your specific EFT goals.
Through this process, many people experience significant changes in their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, which can be life changing!
